At home, the Vikings did not dress as fiercely as you might think. It was cold in Scandinavia most of the year, and people dressed for warmth and comfort. Men would wear trousers and long shirts called tunics, while women wore dresses and aprons while they worked. They made many of their clothes from wool, because wool is so warm, and from the skins of animals they owned or trapped. They also wore thick boots, knitted gloves and socks, and wool caps to help keep out the cold.
